2022 - 2023 Recruitment Planning Guide
The 2022 - 2023 Recruitment Planning Guide provides details about the hiring practices of traditional legal employers, dates and deadlines for summer/fall recruitment opportunities, and advice on securing a second-year summer job. For ease of reference, we’ve created a click-through visual presentation of the most important details in the guide, available here.
Interview Preparation
An interview is an opportunity to demonstrate to a prospective employer that you meet their hiring needs. While your credentials will help you secure an interview, thorough preparation is key to successfully converting an interview to an offer.

Mock Interview
Regardless of your prior interview experience, participating in a videotaped mock interview is one of the best ways to prepare for an upcoming employment interview. A one-hour session includes a 20-minute interview followed immediately by a feedback session during which you will review some of your recorded performance. In addition to a mock interview for the in-person interview process, mock interviews are available for telephone and Skype interviews also.
Alumni Mock Interview Program
Each January the CDO hosts an Alumni Mock Interview Program. Alumni and friends of the law school working in various practice areas and settings return to campus in the evening to conduct mock interviews for interested students. The Alumni Mock Interview Program is a great way to meet an alum, as well as an opportunity to hone your interview skills and prepare for spring interview programs offered by the CDO. Contact the CDO for more information on program scheduling and how to register to participate.
CDO Recruitment Programs
Below is a brief overview of the programs and services available to Richmond Law students during the academic year. The Career Development Office calendar is updated annually. In addition to the programs below, the CDO regularly cosponsors career-related programming with student organizations. One-on-one advising appointments, job search correspondence review, interview strategy sessions and mock interviews can be scheduled throughout the academic year and summer on an as-needed basis.
